SENSORYAdvanced 6-Filter UV System
Combines Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL, Tinosorb S, Uvinul T, Octisalate, and Avobenzone for exceptional broad-spectrum UVA/UVB photostable protection with PPD 46.
Iron Oxide Tint Technology
Universal warm tint with iron oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499) evens skin tone and provides additional protection against visible light and blue light damage.
Ultra-Resistant Formula
Very water, sweat, and sand resistant formula that does not migrate into eyes. Netlock Technology creates a homogeneous protective film on the skin surface.
Sensitive Skin Friendly
Formulated with La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water, enriched with selenium for antioxidant protection. Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested on sensitive skin.
Safety & compatibility
SAFEContains chemical UV filters (Avobenzone, Octisalate, Ethylhexyl Triazone). While generally considered low-risk, some practitioners recommend mineral-only sunscreens during pregnancy. Consult your healthcare provider.
Not fungal acne safe. Contains Isopropyl Myristate and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, which are known to feed Malassezia yeast and may trigger fungal acne breakouts.
Clinically tested and labeled non-comedogenic. Despite containing Isopropyl Myristate (comedogenic rating 3–5 individually), the overall fluid formulation has a low comedogenic risk at 1/5.
Dermatologically and ophthalmologically tested. Anti-eye stinging formula can be applied around the eye area. Hypoallergenic and formulated under strict La Roche-Posay charter.
Contains Alcohol Denat. as a main solvent for lightweight texture and fast absorption. May be drying for very dry or compromised skin barriers. Helps the formula feel lightweight and non-greasy.
The tinted version contains Parfum/Fragrance. A fragrance-free version is available in the non-tinted Anthelios Invisible Fluid. Those with fragrance sensitivities should patch test first.
Ingredient breakdown
INGREDIENTSBis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine (Tinosorb S)Proven
One of the most advanced broad-spectrum UV filters available, covering both UVA and UVB ranges (280–400nm). Extremely photostable and also helps stabilize other less stable filters like Avobenzone.
- Spectrum: Broad-spectrum UVA + UVB (peak protection at 310nm and 345nm)
- Study: A 2007 comparative study of 18 sunscreen agents ranked it among the most effective broad-spectrum filters
- Stability: Extremely photostable — does not degrade significantly under UV exposure
Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid (Mexoryl SX)Proven
A patented L'Oréal UV filter and one of the most photostable UVA filters available. Water-soluble, making it excellent for fluid formulations. Exclusive to L'Oréal Group brands.
- Spectrum: UVA2 filter (peak absorption ~345nm)
- Patent: Exclusive L'Oréal technology, La Roche-Posay was the first brand to use it
- Stability: Exceptional photostability — maintains protection throughout the day
Drometrizole Trisiloxane (Mexoryl XL)Proven
Another L'Oréal-patented UV filter offering broad-spectrum UVA/UVB protection. Oil-soluble counterpart to Mexoryl SX, providing comprehensive coverage when combined.
- Spectrum: Broad UVA + UVB (peak at ~303nm and ~344nm)
- Synergy: Works synergistically with Mexoryl SX for enhanced photostable protection
- Benefit: Also helps protect against infrared radiation
Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499)Proven
Mineral pigments that provide the universal warm tint. Beyond cosmetic benefits, iron oxides offer clinically meaningful protection against visible light and blue light.
- Research: Studies show iron oxides protect against visible light-induced hyperpigmentation, especially in darker skin tones
- Blue Light: Emerging evidence supports protection against high-energy visible (HEV) blue light damage
- Dermatologist endorsed: Recommended by dermatologists for melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation management
Glycerin ~2–5%Proven
A skin-identical humectant that draws moisture to the skin surface. Helps offset the drying effects of Alcohol Denat. in the formula and contributes to skin hydration from first application.
- Function: Humectant — attracts and retains water in the outer skin layer
- Comedogenic Rating: 0 — will not clog pores
- Irritation: 0 — extremely well tolerated by all skin types
Tocopherol (Vitamin E)Proven
A potent antioxidant that helps neutralize free radicals generated by UV exposure. Provides additional photoprotection against UVB rays and works synergistically with sunscreen filters.
- Function: Antioxidant protection — scavenges free radicals caused by UV radiation
- Synergy: Enhances the photoprotective benefits of UV filters
- Stability: Also serves as a formula stabilizer and preservative booster

Where it fits in your routine
ROUTINEAlways apply sunscreen as the last step in your skincare routine, before makeup. This tinted fluid can also replace foundation for a natural, even-toned look on lighter makeup days.
How to use
HOW TO USEShake Well Before Use
The fluid formula separates naturally. Shake the bottle vigorously for 5–10 seconds to ensure UV filters and pigments are evenly distributed.
Apply Generously to Face
Dispense approximately a nickel-sized amount (about 1/4 teaspoon) and dot across forehead, cheeks, nose, and chin. Apply from the top of the forehead to the bottom of the chin.
Blend Until Invisible
Gently spread and pat into skin using fingertips until no white marks remain. The tint will adapt to your skin tone as it absorbs. Can be applied around the eyes (anti-eye stinging formula).
Reapply Every 2 Hours
Reapply frequently and generously, especially after swimming, sweating, or towel drying. For all-day outdoor exposure, reapply at least every 2 hours.

SKIN TYPESUltra-fluid texture absorbs quickly with no greasy residue. Alcohol and Silica help control shine. Excellent matte-to-satin finish.
Ideal for combination skin — lightweight enough for the T-zone, hydrating enough for drier cheek areas thanks to Glycerin.
Perfect daily sunscreen for normal skin. Natural satin finish with even-toned coverage. Works beautifully under makeup or alone.
Alcohol Denat. may feel drying. Best layered over a hydrating serum or moisturizer. Consider the Anthelios UVMune 400 Hydrating Cream for dry skin.
Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested. Anti-eye stinging. Contains fragrance (Parfum), so patch test recommended for very reactive skin.
Non-comedogenic and lightweight. However, not fungal acne safe (contains Isopropyl Myristate). Good for regular acne-prone skin; avoid if Malassezia is a concern.

Frequently asked questions
FAQUse with caution. This sunscreen contains chemical UV filters including Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane), Octisalate (Ethylhexyl Salicylate), and several other organic filters. While these are generally considered safe at approved concentrations, some healthcare providers recommend switching to 100% mineral (Titanium Dioxide/Zinc Oxide) sunscreens during pregnancy and breastfeeding as a precautionary measure. It does NOT contain retinoids, salicylic acid (the exfoliant), or hydroquinone. Always consult your OB-GYN or midwife.
No, this product is NOT fungal acne safe. It contains Isopropyl Myristate, which is a well-known Malassezia trigger, and Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, which can also feed the yeast responsible for fungal acne. If you struggle with fungal acne (Malassezia folliculitis), consider a fungal acne-safe alternative such as the Bioré UV Aqua Rich Watery Essence or the Purito Centella Green Level Unscented Sun SPF 50+.
Yes, absolutely. In fact, wearing high-SPF sunscreen is essential when using retinol, vitamin C, or chemical exfoliants (AHA/BHA) as these actives increase sun sensitivity. Apply your active serums first (vitamin C in the morning, retinol at night), follow with moisturizer if needed, and then apply this sunscreen as the final step. The high PPD 46 rating makes it especially suitable for protecting skin sensitized by active treatments.
This sunscreen is best suited for normal, combination, and oily skin types. Its ultra-light fluid texture with Alcohol Denat. and Silica absorbs quickly without leaving a greasy residue. It is also suitable for sensitive skin (hypoallergenic, dermatologist-tested). However, those with very dry skin may find it slightly drying due to the alcohol content and should layer it over a hydrating moisturizer. The La Roche-Posay Anthelios UVMune 400 Hydrating Cream SPF 50+ is a better option for dry skin.
UV protection is immediate upon application. The cosmetic tinting effect (even skin tone, reduced appearance of redness) is also visible right away. For long-term benefits like preventing hyperpigmentation, reducing melasma darkening, and anti-aging protection, consistent daily use over 4–12 weeks will show noticeable results. The high PPD 46 protection is particularly effective at preventing UV-induced pigmentation changes with continued use.
Always apply sunscreen as the LAST step in your skincare routine, before makeup. The recommended order is: Cleanser → Toner → Serum (Vitamin C, Niacinamide, etc.) → Moisturizer → Anthelios Tinted Fluid SPF 50+. Wait 1–2 minutes after moisturizer for it to absorb before applying sunscreen. This tinted fluid can replace foundation on casual days, or serve as a primer under makeup.
This product is clinically tested and labeled non-comedogenic (comedogenic rating 1/5). While it does contain Isopropyl Myristate, which individually has a high comedogenic rating (3–5), its concentration in this fluid formula is low enough that the overall product tests as non-comedogenic. Most users with acne-prone skin report no breakouts. However, as with any product, individual reactions vary — if you are very breakout-prone, patch test on a small area first.
The Period After Opening (PAO) is 12 months (12M symbol on packaging). After opening, use within one year for optimal UV protection and formula stability. Unopened, the product typically has a shelf life of 2–3 years from manufacturing date (check the batch code on the packaging). Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme heat to maintain effectiveness.
Verdict: La Roche-Posay Anthelios Tinted Fluid SPF 50+ is one of the best tinted sunscreens available for daily facial protection. Its standout PPD 46 rating, advanced 6-filter system with exclusive Mexoryl technology, and iron oxide tint for visible light protection make it a top choice for anyone serious about sun protection and preventing hyperpigmentation. The ultra-light texture is ideal for oily and combination skin, and it works beautifully as a light makeup base. The main drawbacks are the single warm-toned tint (which may not suit all skin tones), the presence of fragrance and alcohol, and the fact that it is not fungal acne safe. Overall, this is a premium European sunscreen that delivers exceptional protection backed by decades of clinical research.

Quick product notes are a great way to check if a product is free from commonly avoided ingredients by skincare enthusiasts. These preferences come about for different reasons depending on the ingredient such as personal experiences, sensitivities, health preferences & etc.
Just because a product is not free from a common preference does not mean it's a bad product! You can make a personal decision whether or not you want to use a product that contains these ingredients or not - click the labels of the preference to read more about them.
Quick Product Notes
Ever used a product that promised a certain effect but provided no results? It might not have contained any notable ingredients that could have been responsible for that promised effect. It doesn't matter what the marketing or packaging «promises» it can do, if it doesn't contain anything that can help - then the likelihood of it helping is low.
We help you identify key notable ingredients that have been shown to help with effects such as acne-fighting, brightening, UV-protection, wound healing & anti-aging to help you achieve your skincare goals smarter. Please note that different notable ingredients have varying levels of research behind them, some are extremely well proven yet some have mixed research in their efficacy.
Just because a product doesn't contain any notable ingredients doesn't mean it's bad. And a product with notable ingredients (or even many) doesn't necessarily guarantee the efficacy of the product performing these effects either. There are other factors such as ingredient quality, concentration and formulation that will ultimately determine this.
Be smart and use this as just a starting point for you to make more informed and smarter choices and compare it with reviews to see if the product is right for you

Ingredient Safety Breakdown refers to the percentage % of ingredients in different risk categories as classified by EWG (Environment Working Group) if they are available. There are almost endless cosmetic ingredients and they are one of the few organisations globally that have assigned ratings to a lot of the more commonly used ingredients which is why we reference them.
EWG is seen by many to be more on the alarmist side in their assignment of health ratings resulting in rating ingredients as riskier than they actually are. We recommend using this a reference point rather than a strict guide of ingredient safety and to always do further research if into ingredients that you may find suspect.
